Hello to everyone! So let me start off by saying "WOW!!!!!" the MTC is amazing! I can't even describe it. I mean, I knew it would be awesome even before I got here but anticipating and actually experiencing something are two totally different things. Also, if you feel like writing me a quick email I was told to tell you to write me through dearelder.com - it's free of charge as far as I know. it's basically just a site to email me through while I'm at the MTC (I leave on Oct 6th) where they print off the emails for me to read at any time. that way I can spend my hour on P-days replying to people rather than just reading through what everyone has sent!Okay, so first day here was way crazy! My host was wonderful, but I got turned over to another senior sister who had to take me around to do a bunch of extra stuff because I was a "foreign" missionary from the Philippines.. haha. so that was fun!My companion(s) are (drumroll).... Sister LaPoint AND Sister Stoker! Yes, we are a trio and we all get along great! they are both going to Toronto with me along with four other sisters (and a bunch of Elders) here so there's lots of us! I am so grateful for the support and love my companions show me. I love getting to know them better each day and it's been so cool to watch them each grow and change in just the last couple of days. half of our district has already been here a week and they glow! People grow so fast here in the MTC. It's so amazing. you have information of every kind being heaped upon you all day, very day and some how between my companions and I we seem to absorb most of it. But seriously though, I'm sooooo grateful for my companions. I can't say that enough! i just love them so!All of the Toronto sisters as well as the other sisters in our district are amazing. They are all so strong and prepared in special ways even if they can't see it themselves.Take Sister Stoker for example. She says public speaking doesn't run in her family, but when she opens her mouth the most inspired, eloquent words flow from it. She doesn't even realize it, but she is seriously in tune with the spirit.sister McDermott from England (Toronto bound) is like that as well but I'll tell you more about her in a minute. We met our branch presidency last night which was exciting! President Mangum is very to the point when it comes to counciling and instructing us. to be honest, I was a little bit intimidated at first but the more he spoke, the more empowered I felt. The spirit was so strong in our meeting. It helped me to better understand what I need to focus my efforts on and of course, reinforced just how much I still have to learn.. which is a lot. It's definitely not a negative thing though! I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow so much as I learn to serve the Lord through our brothers and sisters.I had the wonderful opportunity to go to the Salt Lake temple early this morning with all the other new foreign Elders and Sisters! I was blown away by the beauty of it and could've stayed there forever. I was also able to do one of the family names I brought with me which was super special. After we finished our session we were given a tour around temple square! It was all so great and it was fun getting to know some of the other foreign missionaries and where they're from. This is where Sister McDermott comes in. She came to the temple this morning as well so we paired up as companions and I am so grateful for the opportunity I had to get to know her! She is a convert to the church and was just baptized last April. The only member of her family, far from home, she's so strong in the gospel and like I said about sister stoker, the spirit speaks through her every word.Well I wish I could write every single detail of every single day, but that might be too long an email for everyone receiving this. It's already quite long already.I will say though that I love being a missionary. I have waited my whole life for this opportunity and it's truly proved to be everything I hoped it would be thus far!I am gaining a small taste of just how much God loves each of us and wants us to be happy. My greatest desire is to help any and all who are willing to listen to our message because I know it has the ability to bring greater peace, joy and understanding to those who are searching for more.Be strong and know that the Lord loves you no matter what. <3Love you all,-Sister JensenP.S. I am still figuring out how to send pictures from these computers. Hopefully I'll be able to send some next week!

My Final Week
This week has been packed full of wonderful and I can't even begin to express the depth of my gratitude towards my family and everything they've done for me. They have truly gone an extra 100 miles to make me feel loved and supported.
I gave my farewell talk last Sunday and today was set apart as a full time missionary of the church.
I fly out tomorrow morning and report on Wednesday. :)

I'm A Mormon
One of the mission preparation requirements was that I write a Mormon.org profile! I really enjoyed the opportunity to share a little about myself and explore my testimony and reasons for being a member of this amazing church. :D
If you are a Mormon and have not yet composed a profile I would highly recommend it!

Missionary Photo Shoot!
My dear Auntie Jenn and Uncle Russ took the time the other week to drive a ridiculously bumpy dirt road, all in pursuit of the perfect tree to take my picture in front of! They were kind enough to do a missionary photo shoot with me to capture this exciting time in my life, as well as all the emotions that go with it!
I'm extremely grateful to be able to call them family. They are such wonderful people and absolutely amazing parents to my two darling cousins Spenser and Norah.
I love them with all my heart.

The Manila Temple
They have a beautiful temple here in the Manila! It's so refreshing to walk onto the clean temple grounds, after walking the grimy streets. I felt so at peace, being there with my mom. I've been stressing a lot lately about being prepared both temporally and spiritually for my mission, but doing a session helped to settle my mind. :) Also, the temple is right across from the MTC so you are constantly seeing flocks of missionaries going to and from. It makes me both nervous and excited to report on the 24th!
OH! Another exciting thing; we saw Sister Sam at the temple! She is still doing well and is getting in as much 'temple time' as she can before she returns home. What an amazing woman.

Songful Sunday!
Church today was absolutely wonderful! The hymns is sacrament meeting all struck chords with me, but one in particular really stood out:
I'll Go Where You Want Me To Go #270
Take a listen or read the lyrics in the link above if you like.
It stuck out as a beautiful missionary song (which I'm always looking for), but it also seemed so applicable to my family right now! The first verse reads "It may not be on a mountain height or over the stormy sea... my Lord will have need of me." The thing is, God has called my family "over the stormy sea". We have moved to the Philippines for crying out loud, and yet my family has responded calmly to the call with "I'll go where you want me to go".
My parents are amazing. My brother is brave and outgoing. We are all still feeling a little bit rootless. Nothing seems certain yet, but we have faith that the Lord knows best for each of us.
I'm so excited for my mission as well! It's drawing close and the lyrics resonate with me as I prepare to respond to the call as a full time missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. :)

Sister Sam Part 2
Sister Sam had her surgery today. Mom and I went to visit her at the hospital before the procedure and met some Elders there who gave her the most beautiful blessing. They blessed her with assurance of Heavenly Father's love for her and that she would make a full recovery! The spirit was so strong and I totally cried. :P
I'm just so grateful for missionaries and the work and service they do!

Sister Sam
This past Sunday, we met a sister visiting from Guam. She was here for a surgery to remove her cancer and after talking to her briefly, my mother offered to bring her a meal one evening. She gratefully accepted and we set a date to stop by her hotel where she and her sister were staying. The day we decided on was today.
On arriving at her hotel, we were saddened by the state of it. The bed sheets in her room appeared stained and worn, the amenities scarce, and there was a a large cockroach that darted across the floor as we entered.
What did lighten our hearts though, was the lightness of Sister Sam's! She was full of gratitude! She was grateful for her family and the sacrifices they had made to get her to the Philippines. She was grateful that we would bring her and her sister dinner, and she was grateful for friends to help her through this time.
We sang a few hymns for/with them and left them with a prayer. They told us that we were the answer to their prayer! Although flattered by this, we decided that the answer to their prayer would not end there. We are determined to do more to help these dear sisters and get the ward more involved. Mom, Josh and I agree that the spirit has testified just how cherished these daughters are in our Heavenly Father's eyes and we love them. Today I am grateful for sister Sam and the faith she is showing in the midst of a difficult time. <3

Mini MTC Experience
Well... today was different than I expected, but it was definitely good! I asked to participate in a stake youth activity referred to as a "Mini MTC Experience". My brother couldn't make it, so I decided to take his place! Waking up at at 5:30 to get to the chapel by 7:00 was the start of it all. There were four of us 'white kids' clustered together, feeling desperately out of place while everyone else chatted in tagolog. Learning experience number 1: People actually speak different languages in various parts of the world?! Who knew! The workshops in the morning were excellent. Thank goodness for instructors who mostly spoke in english for our benefit.
In the afternoon we were supposed to go out proselyting, but due to a lack of leaders that part of the activity was cancelled... It didn't ever occur to me that a church activity could just be cancelled! haha. So learning experience number 2: church activities in the Philippines=slightly disorganized.
Everyone met back at the church in the evening for a fireside by the mission president, President Ostler. Again, I was thankful for english. It was followed by a brief testimony meeting. Although many of the testimonies born were also in tagolog, the spirit was strong just like it was on splits with the sisters yesterday. :)
Learning experience number 3: The church, though taught in multiple languages, is the same no matter where you go in the world.

Splits and a Jeepney Ride
Now that I'm officially in the Philippines I figure I better keep trying to be a good missionary...
My mom and I went on splits with some sisters from the Manila mission today. It was a wonderful, exciting experience. After meeting them at the chapel we caught a jeepney to the area we would be working in. Now, I totally trust the sisters, but I was a little hesitant to climb into the public transit (jeepney) after hearing stories of people getting robbed and whatnot haha. Nevertheless we boarded and were totally fine. :)
We reached our destination about 15 minutes later; a typical family neighbourhood consisting of ramshackle shanties and rundown houses. Children played in the streets as people revved past on their motor bikes. It was altogether a different environment than I was accustomed to and my heart flooded with guilt as I reflected on my comfortable lifestyle back in Alberta. I have so much. Many of these people have nothing.
We walked to the residence of a young sister, I'm guessing in her mid twenties, named Beth. She works as a housekeeper for a newly wed couple that are members of the church. :) The lesson was completely in tagolog. I couldn't understand a thing ringing past my ears, but I could understand the whisperings of the spirit. I felt the holy ghost testifying of truth throughout the lesson, confirming what the sisters taught. At the end of the lesson, my mom and I were both asked to bear our testimonies of the plan of salvation (in english of course which Beth could understand, thank goodness!). It was a great experience for each of us.

Member Missionaries
So basically, these fine folks you see in the picture below are some of the best member missionaries I know!
Traveling to my grandparents home from the temple yesterday, my grandpa Dave mentioned that the older he gets, the easier it becomes for him to start talking about the gospel with all sorts of people. He said he views it as planting seeds in their hearts so that one day, they might accept the church more easily. My excitement grew as I realized what a great missionary he is.
In relief society today my nana turned around and struck up a little conversation with a lady who isn't a a member. (She has a deal with her husband who is a member that if he goes to her church one week, she'll go to his the next.) Nana was so sweet, introduced herself and told her how happy we were to have her there with us. I don't know why, but I was blown away by her simple and kind welcome to this woman. Seriously, my mouth nearly dropped open haha. It hit me then what a fantastic missionary my nana was!
Then this evening at dinner, my grandma Edna and grandpa Donn brought up their lovely Chinese exchange student Jessie who had just recently been baptized! It was though their example and lifestyle that she became curious about the church, and they were able to assist her in the conversion process as she took lessons form the missionaries. It humbled me to know what amazing missionaries they are.
I look up to all my grandparents very much. Yay for member missionaries who engrave this calling on their hearts.

Langley Temple Trip
I love to see the temple <3 |
In May 2010, after years of planning, building, and then waiting, I was able to witness the dedication of this amazing house to the Lord. I was also privileged to perform in the Temple Youth Celebration for it. What an amazing experience to dance and sing our praises. British Columbia had finally been blessed with a temple!
Now over four years later I can come back and enter in.
Not only was it a great temple day, it was also the perfect timing to reconnect with a couple of old friends!
My dad and I got to give a hug to Joy, a family friend who had JUST been married in the temple that afternoon. She was absolutely stunning and looked happy beyond description. That was special.
Unknown to me, a friend who I had lost contact with back in 2011 was going through the temple for his first time before heading on his mission to Tokyo! Catching up with him and talking mission stuff was also special. :)

Moving Day
Today has been a total mix of emotions. I had to say goodbye to my friends, and my beautiful little town of Magrath. I'm going to miss everything and everyone for the next two-ish years. I have to leave behind some of my best friends in the world simply because I couldn't fit them in my suitcase. :/ I also have to give up the best small southern AB town in the history of ever, I'm sure! (I'm not biased.. ;)
Sigh... but enough pity partying!
Let's focus on gratitude. (My mom has the gift of gratitude and she's super awesome and happy all the time because of it. Sometimes looking at things from her perspective really helps.)
I'm grateful for my upcoming adventures!
The Philippines for a month and then a mission for eighteen?! I still can't believe it.
I'm grateful for my dad's job and his company that has provided us with the cool opportunity to move across the world.
I'm grateful for my family and how awesome and positive they are!
I'm grateful for my mission call!!!
I'm grateful for the gospel in my life <3
I know that we are given trials to help us grow. I also know that Heavenly Father has given me these amazing opportunities to bless my life as well as the lives of my family!
As long as I focus on that I'm able to keep a smile on my face, and I like smiling!

Change is Good...
Let's just take a minute to appreciate this quote, shall we? This, as a laminated piece of paper, has lived on my mirror for the last few weeks and is now being packed to move halfway around the world with me! It has helped me to accept, rather than reject all that's going on in my life right now. I mean, preparing for a mission is overwhelming in itself. House cleaning, organizing, renovating, and preparing to move.. to the Philippines.. (have I mentioned my family's moving there?) kinda puts things over the top! That said, I've felt oddly calm and at peace with everything happening lately. Such a blessing.
So I just want to say to all those dealing with big changes, small changes, or even in between-ish changes; it's going to be okay! It may seem unbearably hard now, but trust me, you will grow because of it and it will be GOOD! Just have faith and a little perseverance. You will make it through!

"If You Want Me To"
This is one of my absolute favourite songs. The thing is, I had completely forgotten about it until the other day when it started running through my head! "If You Want Me To" by Ginny Owens has such a beautiful and encouraging message. Not only does it apply to everyone dealing with difficulties in their lives, but it also puts into perspective the attitude of our Saviour Jesus Christ. He was humble and submitted to his father's will, having faith that everything would work out. I hope we can each try a little harder to have this same outlook each time we are faced with a trial. <3

Fight the New Drug / Mission Open House
So church today was a little bit different... BUT in a great way. For the second and third blocks, instead of Sunday school and Relief Society/Priesthood we had a two hour presentation on the dangers of pornography. All the youth and adults were invited to attend and I'm so glad that this was something that our ward took part in!
The instructor worked in line with 'Fight the New Drug'. A company that is striving to shut down the pornography industry by spreading the facts about the addictive problem.
He had of course altered his presentation to fit within church policy.
I don't know what else to say about it other than it was extremely eye opening and helpful!
I would encourage everyone to take a look at the website connected to the link below.

Book of Mormon challenge complete!
Twenty three days ago, two days after receiving my call, I made a deal with my cousin Justin Walker (he got his call to Las Vegas on the same day as me!) We set a goal to read the Book of Mormon in 20 days as part of our mission preparation. Well amid the crazy things going on in my life I fell a few days behind, but as of today (day 23) I have once again finished reading my favourite book in the world.
Now I know people say it's important to read the Book of Mormon slowly so you can study it more deeply as you go, and I totally agree with that! Although, I have also found that in reading it quickly there is a different opportunity to learn and gain understanding of it. When I read it faster, it helps me to link the stories and time line together better. I find it easier to connect the individuals and families relations together, as well as form a better picture of the Book of Mormon as a whole in my mind! I love it!
Anyways, this book is just amazing. It is full of truth, light, and all things relatable to our day in age. I know it is the word of God and that Joseph Smith translated it by our Heavenly Father's power. Most importantly, I am beyond excited to share the message of this special book with those who are in search of greater light and truth in their own lives.

Visiting Grandpa
Today my brother and I drove down to Calgary to pick our parents up at the airport. It was a beautiful Sunday and before heading home we stopped at the cemetery to visit grandpa.
I never met him but he is dear to my heart and I know he must've been an amazing man to raise someone as wonderful as my father!
I'm so grateful we took the opportunity to go and say 'hi' before moving once again and leaving on my mission. I know that Grandpa John will be by my side as I serve my mission just as he was by my dad's side on his. <3

I Love to See the Temple
From the time I was a little thing in primary I can remember singing the song "I Love to See the Temple". The teachings of parents, teachers, and leaders helped to make the lyrics of this song a goal in my life at a very young age. "I'll go inside someday. I'll covenant with my father; I'll promise to obey." This is what I always wanted to do!
Well yesterday I had the opportunity to turn that childhood dream into a reality. Entering the Lords holy temple was truly the most special and memorable moment of my life up to this point. The peace and comfort I felt was indescribable and I knew it was truly a house of God.
I am overwhelmed with gratitude for my family right now! For my amazing little brother who has such a strong testimony and desire to serve and help people, for my amazing parents, for the way they raised me, and for the way they have taught and supported me in the gospel throughout my life. I'm grateful that my parents were married in the temple and I know that because they were, we are a forever family; sealed together for time and all eternity. Most importantly, I am so grateful for the gospel of Jesus Christ and for his true church upon the earth today.

The Lovely Lyrics :)
I'm going there someday
To feel the Holy Spirit,
To listen and to pray.
For the temple is a house of God,
A place of love and beauty.
I'll prepare myself while I am young;
This is my sacred duty.
I love to see the temple.
I'll go inside someday.
I'll cov'nant with my Father;
I'll promise to obey.
For the temple is a holy place
Where we are sealed together.
As a child of God, I've learned this truth:
A fam'ly is forever.

Felt the spirit so strong today... and bawled my eyes out in the car when this song started playing! haha.

To all who are preparing to serve; this song is about you! Pretty cool right?
I love it <3

O Canada
So I was thinking today about how grateful I am to have been born and raised in such an amazing country. I was also thinking how grateful I am to be able to serve a mission in that same country!
This past Sunday the congregation sang O Canada as the opening hymn to our sacrament meeting. It really is like a hymn so I thought I would post the lyrics. They are so beautiful! Most people know, or have at least heard the first verse in which the chorus is established, asking God to "keep our land, glorious and free". The following three verses are a further tribute to this beautiful country and the fourth in particular is fully directed to our Heavenly Father. <3

O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land, glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee;

True patriot love in all thy sons command.

From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land, glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee;
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada! Where pines and maples grow,
Great prairies spread and Lordly rivers flow!
How dear to us thy broad domain,
From East to Western sea!
The land of hope for all who toil,
The true North strong and free!
God keep our land, glorious and free.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!
O Canada! Beneath thy shining skies,
May Stalwart sons, and gentle maidens rise.
To keep thee steadfast thro’ the years,
From East to Western sea.
Our own beloved native land,
Our true North strong and free!
God keep our land, glorious and free.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!
Ruler supreme, who hearest humble prayer,
Hold our Dominion, in thy loving care.
Help us to find, O God, in thee,
A lasting rich reward.
As waiting for the better day,
We ever stand on guard.
God keep our land, glorious and free.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!

The Real Deal :D
Dear Sister Jensen:
You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. You are assigned to labor in the Canada Toronto mission. It is anticipated that you will serve for a period of 18 months.
You should report to the Provo Missionary Training Center on Wednesday, September 24, 2014. You will prepare to preach the gospel in the Enlish language. Your assignment may be modified according to the needs of the mission president.
I have been waiting to read those words my whole life and here they are on a piece of paper with my name on it!!!
My family was working in the yard again this morning when we got a call from the post office. You would've though I was trying to fly if you'd seen me jumping up and down and flapping my hands when my mom announced "It's a good day to check the mail!" haha... I was a little excited.
The hardest part was the waiting. Waiting two hours to finish the yard work before going to the mailbox and waiting until 5:00 to open it with family and friends. But really, what's a few hours compared to 37 days (plus my whole life) of waiting for the call to actually arrive?? :)
I had no idea where I was going to go before I opened that big white beautiful envelope, but let me tell ya; when I read 'Toronto' it felt right. I basically cried my whole way through reading it aloud... and then cried a lot after I had finished too. The spirit was so strong and I know that Toronto is where I'm supposed to go! Mission calls are divinely inspired. The Lord calls you to the area He needs you most and I feel that I have been called with a purpose; To help others come unto Christ and to recieve the joy of the gospel.
I look forward to meeting all of the people that I am meant to help, as well as all the people who are meant to help me!
Just to end this blog entry I figure should express all the deep down feelings I'm containing about my call right now:
I'M GOING TO TORONTO!!!!!!!! :D AHHHHHHHH!!!! Words cannot even express my feelings right now. PLUS I report the day after my 19th BIRTHDAY!! <3

Happy Canada Day!
Today has been the most beautiful day! My family and I woke up to this cheerful flag on our lawn this morning flapping in the AB breeze. (The scouts do a fundraiser every year where you "buy" a flag and they will place it on your lawn each holiday.)
There was plenty of yard work to be done and my mom made a rhubarb/custard pie in honour of the red and white. It was DELICIOUS!
Luckily all of this helped to keep my mind off the fact that the post office was closed today... haha. I have been waiting exactly 5 weeks for my call! I must be in need of a little more patience. :)
I'm crossing my fingers it's there tomorrow though! If it's not I might cry. If it is... I'll still cry... for joy of course!
Oh dear.

A "Close Call"
I promised good news would be coming soon right? Well after waiting three weeks for my papers to be fully and officially processed, they were finally stated as "ready to be assigned"!
My family has been filming me every time I check the mail for future 'perfect' mission call video;'s sake so you can only imagine my panic when my dad and I went to check the mail this past Monday night and my camera wouldn't record... Now try to imagine the near heart attack I had when I saw a large white envelope with a red stamp crammed into our mailbox amidst all the other adds, bills, and whatnots that night. A double take soon revealed that that particular envelope was NOT my call, but an RBC package for my dad. (sigh)
Now imagine the excitement I felt when upon returning home we discovered a 'Package Pickup' notification for moi!
The next morning: I am at the postoffice; notification in hand. My brother and best friend accompany me with fully functioning recording devices prepared to capture my reaction of receiving what is sure to be my call.
After waiting exactly four weeks I feel confident that what is waiting for me inside holds the magical future 18 months of my life. It has to be here. I feel ready to burst with excitement. Walking to the front desk of the post office, I hand over my slip of paper. The lady takes it, opens a file drawer and draws out a large white envelope... :D
Taking into account the large red numbers marked sloppily across the front, as well as the absence of a small plastic window (I've watched enough mission call opening videos to know what the envelope's supposed to look like) my heart quickly turns from ready to burst... to sinking to the pit of my stomach in disapointment. It's NOT my call. AGAIN! Ugh.
It'll probably be here tomorrow...

My Papers Are In!
Hello to everyone... or anyone at least, who is reading this very first blog entry of mine! I've created this blog with the purpose of posting my progress as I prepare and serve an 18 month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. As of 2:47pm, Tuesday May 27th my papers have officially been submitted to church headquarters in Salt Lake City... and the wait begins!
I am so grateful for gospel in my life. It has brought me joy, peace, and understanding and I want to show my love for my Heavenly Father by dedicating a year and a half solely to serving his children and teaching those who will hear His message.
Well that's all for now folks.
More news and posts to come!
xoxo,
Millie
